ArtPlz! Regime Change

You all may have noticed lately that ArtPlz! has taken a slight turn in terms of how we're doing things. It's unfortunate, but because of some irreconcilable differences, n (Arcturus) will no longer be leading ArtPlz!'s efforts. He will, despite this, be welcome to stick around to help us as a consultant if he so desires. In addition, we will maintain his title for history's sake as the founder of ArtPlz!.

Meet the New Leadership

As far as the current leadership is concerned, arshes, _nobuyuki, and nrr will be in control of the whole affair. While there are some disadvantages that come along with a distribution of power and authority like this, they are largely caused by lack of communication and documentation. The inherent advantage is that progress on the site is compartmentalized by more than just one person, and as such, tasks can be specialized.

In our case, we have some very talented and devoted individuals:

Arshes Nei comes to us with a long-running background in copyright and trademark law and Web site maintenance. She and her crack team of writers and proofreaders will ensure that every facet of ArtPlz! will be documented. In addition, her past experience with copyrights and trademarks will give ArtPlz!'s users the added edge and knowledge they need in order to be successful artists. She also likes to crack her whip in an effort to herd everyone into behaving. Arshes Nei's the sane one.

Nobuyuki is the head of aesthetics and visual design, and he's largely the one to blame for opting to use Shobon as our mascot. When it comes to designing the visual components of ArtPlz!, he'll have a large influence. You can blame him then for that too. Nobuyuki's the artistic one.

nrr is our resident code monkey and mad computer scientist; most of his time is spent in a development environment in hopes of building ArtPlz! the way it was meant to be built. He will also be responsible for making sure that the machines running everything are kept well-powered and happy once ArtPlz! grows up. He has a penchant for starting sudden violent outbursts involving the shortcomings of modern computers and software. nrr's the complainy one.

The challenge for us will be working efficiently and effectively together. However, given who we have leading the project, we're certain that working for a common goal such as ArtPlz! will be a worthy challenge.

What Will Happen to the ArtPlz! Name?

For the time being, we'll retain the ArtPlz! name for the sake of convenience. It's a name that we have available to us, we have the proper addresses on the Internet for it already, and the name is rather well-known to a rather large, albeit niche, group of people.

We do, however, intend to change the name down the road for a multitude of reasons, one of which involves Arcturus's current hold on the name. Likewise, if he wishes to use the name at a later time for something else, we will show the same gracious behavior toward him that he has shown to us and relinquish control of it.

What Will Happen to ArtPlz!'s Hosting?

It's worth addressing this question because it's important; where ArtPlz! is hosted determines what sort of a future it will have.

Simply put, Arcturus will continue to host us for as long as it takes us to get back on our feet. Our funding as it stands is minimal, and because we are nice people, he has offered to let us stay until we can afford to move somewhere bigger and better.

So, What's in It for Us as Users?

The biggest change that users will see is the open disclosure of information. We're striving from now on to provide our userbase with as much information as absolutely possible. nrr will be granted the ability to release the source code and post the log for the Subversion repository in a location accessible by the public. He will also be given the tools (or given the chance to write such tools) necessary to keep everyone informed.

The next item up in noticeable changes involves our management scheme and practices. The three of us – Arshes Nei, Nobuyuki, and nrr – will make every effort to meet weekly in an effort to address issues in an orderly and timely manner.

Before we tie off this announcement, we would like to give Arcturus a big thank you for graciously continuing to host us and for his understanding in the monumental changes that ArtPlz! needed to endure in order to achieve progress again.

We would also like to thank our users for being patient with us as we do our best to bring the best art community to the Web. Without you, our existence here is meaningless and futile.

Re: Guess what? I'm posting "BS" (BullShit) over here, too.

Arcturus is a fucking loser.

Life without Arcturus = no more exploitation of code and hacking, no more posting of copywrited works without a DNP list despite artists wishes, no more posting of people's private telephone numbers directly into his livejournal and no more messing with peoples hosted files = big time win for everyone involved.

Plus less fucking drama for the planet.

Well, it's been 13 months since this new management was designated. It's been 21 months since the original FurAffinity split cased ArtPlz to be proposed.

It's probably safe to say this project is dead. And if it's not, some kind of update or news would be a good idea, don't you think?
